How much water flow does the Steamin Demon II use to clean
with?
Most municipal water delivery systems deliver between 4.5 and
5.5 gallons per minute (GPM). With the built-in restrictions of
the Steamin Demon II, the actual flow rate usually runs between
3 and 4 GPM.
How much water pressure (PSI) does the Steamin Demon II use?
The Steamin Demon II cleans using whatever water pressure is
provided by the municipal water delivery system. It varies, but
typically runs between 50 and 80 PSI. But PSI alone does not
tell the full story of how the Steamin Demon II cleans. More
important is the Impact Rate, which measures a combination of
PSI and water flow. (For more on Impact Rates, see Pressure vs.
Water Flow.)
What if the
water flow (or pressure) at a job site is low?
Occasionally, the hot water tap at a job location may - either
by design or because of pipe corrosion - offers restricted flow.
If this occurs, turn on the cold water as well. Doing so should
give you sufficient water flow of at least 3 GPM.
With all that
flow, won't I quickly run out of hot water?
So long as you are cleaning in a home or facility that has a
full-size hot water tank, it is very unlikely that you will run
out of hot water. This is because even as you are cleaning only
about one third of the time is spent with the water on. Some
facilities, however, utilize miniature (3-5 gallon) hot water
tanks. In this case, you will end up using tepid to cold water
for much of the job. Your results will not be as good as if you
had hot water to use. However, so long as you are using a
good-quality prespray, and unless you are attempting to restore
a really "trashed-out" carpet, you will still achieve very
satisfactory results with the Steamin Demon II.
How far from a
water source can the Steamin Demon II be operated?
The standard unit can be operated up to 250 feet from a water
source. For longer hose runs, an optional dual-discharge pump
system is available which will allow you to operate up to 400
feet from a water source.
What is the
capacity of the discharge pump?
Depending on how much hose is attached, the discharge rate is
between 4.5 and 5.5 GPM. With the optional dual-discharge pump
system, the discharge rate is between 6 and 6.5 GPM.
Won't the
Steamin Demon II leave the carpet wet?
No. The Steamin Demon II features an amazing recovery system
that extracts over 94% of the water and will leave the carpet
dryer than systems that clean using a small fraction of the
water. Drying times on commercial carpet average 2-4 hours,
often less. On deeper pile residential carpets, the drying time
typically runs 6-8 hours. This is comparable to drying times
experienced with truckmounts.
What is the CFM
and water lift of the Steamin Demon II vacuum system
The Steamin Demon II uses a three-stage Ametek-Lamb vacuum motor
that is rated at 105 CFM (cubic feet of air per minute) and 118
inches of water lift. But the important thing to understand
about the Steamin Demon II's vacuum system is that only 8 inches
of water lift is required to move the water from the carpet to
the recovery tank. This, and the size of the recovery tank
(one-third cubic foot) are the keys to the incredible
effectiveness and efficiency of the Steamin Demon II's vacuum
system.
In terms of
performance, how does the Steamin Demon II compare to other
portables and to truck mounts?
In field tests that compared the Steamin Demon II to
conventional portable extractors, the Steamin Demon II removed,
on average, nearly 2.5 times the amount of soil; its production
rate was over double that of the conventional extractors; and it
removed over four times as much soil per hour of operation. The
Steamin Demon II has not been tested officially against truck
mounts, but in unofficial performance comparisons it seems to
perform on a roughly equal level. In water damage restoration,
it has been shown to outperform truck mounts in water
extraction.
Can you run
cleaning chemical or a rinsing agent through the Steamin Demon
II?
The Steamin Demon II is designed to operate as a prespray-and-rinse
extractor. The on-board prespray system features an adjustable
chemical injector and recoiling prespray hose that allows you to
prespray up to a 20' x 20' area.
Can I clean
stairs and furniture with the Steamin Demon II?
Yes. An optional stair and/or furniture cleaning assembly is
available. It features 25 feet of vacuum and solution hose.
What about
repair and maintenance?
The Steamin Demon II is designed to be a very low maintenance
machine. A comprehensive, illustrated repair manual and parts
list comes with each machine, and our nationwide network of
factory-authorized representatives and dealers are available to
solve any problems you are unable to solve yourself.
How long has the
Steamin Demon II been made?
The Steamin Demon II is based on a direct hookup machine that
was developed over 30 years ago. The patented "high-flow"
characteristic was developed in 1996 by Mike Downey, inventor of
the Steamin Demon II.
Does it matter
what type of prespray and defoamer we use?
Yes. The use of a top-quality prespray and a dilute liquid
defoamer are important elements in successful cleaning using the
Steamin Demon II. Our own specially formulated high-flow
prespray and a silicone-based dilute defoamer work extremely
well. Should you opt to use another product, call us for a list
